A retired captain. An experimental starship. A war like no other.

When the research starship Galileo vanishes without a trace, the powers-that-be are quick to bury the incident, eager to prevent escalating tensions that could lead to war. As a former POW, Soren refuses to give the ship up for lost.

His daughter is one of the missing.

Taking matters into his own hands, Soren starts pulling strings and calling in favors, determined to launch a clandestine mission to bring Galileo home. When an old friend offers him a ship for the operation, he expects a rusty relic headed for the scrapyard.

Instead, he’s given the Wraith—an unfinished, experimental starship with plenty of potential and just as many problems. A marvel of engineering…if his crew can keep her running.

They’d better.

Because Galileo’s disappearance is just the beginning. War is coming to the Federation from the most unlikely of places.

And Soren may be the only one who can stop it.

An excellent plot, so many ways for it all to end in disaster, with strong characters, dialogue, action and drama.

Good book by a great author- action and adventure from Chapter 1 but the strokes of last-minute luck the characters seem to have is right at the edge of credibility. Will read the next book but hope that it doesn’t wander into the realms of impossibility…

One thing Forbes does tend to do well, is to keep the story momentum moving forwards well (too many authors get bogged down with main character soliloquies). He doesn’t tend to side-track into sex or over the top violence; just keeps the story line jogging along at a good pace. And, yes, l will be buying the rest of this series as it is published, l guess!

Just an excellent read. Plenty of action and excitement both on planet and in space. Forbes has created strong characters that lend themselves to the potential for a very good series. Just the best! Can’t wait for the next book. Keep up the good work!

    another MR Forbes masterpiece!
This is for all those fans of galaxy spanning adventure by a determined group of heroes. A beautifully written testament that everyone, no matter who they are, can make a difference. Another excellent series. Can’t wait till next Tuesday!

    High Quality MilSF!
Credible World building. Interesting, fast moving plot. Quality story telling. It has only one systematic fault. It’s too wordy. Significant copy editing would take this into the top of its class. The increased conciseness will speed up an already fast paced story.Enjoy.
