FROM THE BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF HOLY ISLAND AND THE COVE

The clock is ticking…

For Detective Chief Inspector Ryan, the stakes have never been higher. Most of the world thinks he’s dead, killed by an assasin’s rifle in his own home. But another man took the bullet intended for him, and now Ryan’s living on borrowed time. As long as he stays ‘dead’, in the sanctuary of his parents’ home in Devon, there’s a chance to find the people behind the deadly killing network. It’s only a matter of time before his secret’s uncovered, and nowhere will be safe.

Back in Northumberland, Ryan’s team are called in to investigate the mysterious death of a man in Alnwick, who collapsed yards from the walls of its Mediaeval castle. When a second person is rushed to hospital with the same symptoms, her life hangs in the balance unless they can discover the toxic substance that’s killing her. For DCs Lowerson and Reed, there’s only one place to look for inspiration—the Poison Garden…

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit, set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

I made the mistake of starting reading this late in the afternoon. Near midnight I prised my eyes from the pages and promised myself I’d finish next day. As expected, the plot and characters are perfect, and the ending with another twist in the plot has me eagerly awaiting the next volume.

I have only recently discovered the DCI Ryan books and was hooked from book 1. I have read them all ( except 11 which I felt was an excuse to earn more) one after the other. I love the engrossing mysteries. That’s a given. What I love most are the characters who are so well portrayed, with intriguing on-going stories and a depth and complexity that makes them very believable. It was therefore a shocking moment near the end of book 21! The enjoyment of book 22, however, made it worthwhile. I can’t wait for the next book .

Another masterpiece by LJ Ross. I love the DCI Ryan universe and had to read this book the moment I saw it was out. 10/10 as usual

    AnotherRiveting DCI Ryan mystery!
I’ve been on a wild mystery ride with LJ Ross ever since she wrote Ryan’s first book “Holy Island”! I recommend that you read them in order because they build upon each other. “Poison Garden” has an extremely sinister plot as you’d expect. The characters are a lovable mix of upright people, devoted to each other and to rooting out evil. Enter the garden if you dare!

    Brilliant!
The Poison Garden is absolutely BRILLIANT, best read after reading The Rock #21! Honestly, the creation of the in&outs (not to give away anything) is one of the most creative mysteries that I (age 77) have ever read! Of course the very end is another OMG! What Next!?!?

    Entertaining Read
This book was very entertaining. Why watch television when a person can read a good book like this one. Kudos to the author for a well written storyline that keeps a reader wanting more.

Fantastic continuation of the DCI Ryan Mysteries. Great characters who we feel like we really know. Eagerly waiting for the next in the series.

    Great continuation
Every time I pick up the latest in a series I worry if I’ll pick up the old storyline. LJ does a fantastic job of explaining the backstory so it all comes alive again. This was a great twisted plot that could produce any number of follow-up stories. Looking forward to the next episode.

    Good and yet..
I love these characters and always enjoy the new story. I did not think this book was as good as the others; the outcomes were predictable and I was particularly disappointed in the cliche ending. I still look forward to the next book as this one had the disadvantage of being sort of “part 2” to the previous story-line.

    Yet another amazingly good book
It is rare to keep characters interesting, plots consistent and logical and the pace just right. LJ Ross has done it yet again. The settings and stories never fail to draw the reader into the world she haw created. If you haven’t read this series, you must. It is the top of the heap in character-driven British police procedurals.

    as always the very best!
I have been reading her books forever! I love the twists and turns of each story and the very well rounded out characters. Looking forward to each new book is a delight, but the waiting for it is like the ninth month of pregnancy, anxious yet happy. When the new book is released I can’t put it down. Of course Ryan stories are my favorites, but honestly I look forward to all the other characters in the other stories as well. A treat in pages of intriguing thoughts by design.Thank you Ms. Ross
