Maggie and John are leaf-peeping in Connecticut on their long-overdue vacation. When a forest fire engulfs the region, they swing into action to rescue animals, forging human bonds in the process that continue far beyond this tragedy.
Back in Westbury, Maggie faces a firestorm of her own. Vindictive social media posts about her late husband’s shady past threaten her reputation. Will her forceful response merely ruffle feathers or upend her career?
Gordon Mortimer returns to Westbury to finish appraising Rosemont’s treasures. Meeting Anita Archer, owner of the local bridal boutique, to view her vintage sewing machine collection sparks an attraction beyond their shared interest in antiques.
Waves of Grace is a captivating tale of resilience, love, and the power of compassion: women’s fiction at its best.
Interview with the Author
Q: Have you always wanted to be a writer?
A: I’m an attorney and have done a lot of technical writing, but knew I wanted to write novels. I thought I’d find time when I retired. Fate stepped in, as it often does, and put me on this path sooner. I broke my neck in an auto accident and suffered from double vision for months. I couldn’t read or watch TV, so I conceived the plot for my Rosemont series.
Q: Why did you decide to write a series?
A: I prefer television series to movies. The longer format of television allows for deeper character development. The same holds true for series fiction. I like to fall in love with a character or hate a character (but root for them to change their ways). I feel like Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi from Alexander McCall Smith’s Ladies’ Detective Agency series are old friends. I wanted to recreate that sort of connection in the Rosemont series.
Q: What other authors do you read or admire?
A: I’m a fan of women’s fiction, women’s sagas, romantic suspense, domestic suspense, crime fiction, and romance. I love Rosamunde Pilcher’s later trilogy -The Shell Seekers, Coming Home, and September. Jan Karon’s Mitford series creates an enchanting world, as does Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove. My Rosemont series is set in the current day, but I’ve tried to capture a feeling of camaraderie and connection (among the good guys) that takes us back to a slightly simpler time and place.
Q: What are your favorite books?
A: In addition to the works I’ve already mentioned, I adored A Man Called One, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and A Long Way from Chicago.
Q: Who has had the greatest influence on your author life?
A: My dad–without question. He told me or read me a bedtime story every night of my childhood, often adding his own twists and turns to the plots or dialogue. He had an incredible, gentle sense of humor. He also wrote novels–who-done-its–when he retired.
Q: What are the high points of your author journey?
A: There are 3 things I hold very dear: 1) hearing from readers–especially newly blind adults–that my Guiding Emily series has given then hope and provided comfort, 2) having my novella The Christmas Club and my novel Guiding Emily made into Hallmark Channel movies of the same name (2019 and 2023), and 3) seeing my name on the USA Today Bestseller List.
Q: What of your own interests have you written about in the Rosemont series?
A: I love my home and all things related to homemaking: cooking, gardening, decorating, and entertaining. I love celebrating all of the seasons and I change my decor for Easter, 4th of July, fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring.

Rosemont Friendships and Envy
The friendships of the town of Rosemont are never more apparent than at Maggie and Johnâs annual Thanksgiving Potluck. And the addition of Allistair to the festivities adds a delightful new dimension to Rosemont. However there is a dark cloud looming to spoil the celebration as Maggie is dealing once again with details from her past, but she chooses to show grace to her accuser even to the consternation of family and friends. As old and new friends gather, hints of new stories to come are given and the knowledge that this wonderful series will continue makes this reader very happy.Thank you to the author for an early copy. This review is my personal opinion.

Heartwarming!
Waves of Grace takes us back to Rosemont, in the town of Westbury, with a brief visit from Pam Olson and Steve Turner from The Wishing Tree series. Thereâs another Rosemont resident, Alistair, a kind, helpful ghost, that has Maggie and John wondering if their house is haunted because they arenât yet aware of his presence. This series brings tears to my eyes each time thereâs a mention of an injured animal. This time weâre dealing with dogs and cats rescued from another fire. Maggie is also dealing with some malicious social media posts, and there might be a new romance on the horizon for a couple of dear friends. Such a wonderful series.I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Barbara gifted us again!
Barbara has gifted us again with a wonderful new edition to Rosemont. While enjoying a much delayed vacation we find Maggie and John enjoying the autumn colors when a wild fire occurs, and they jump into action to help Johnâs Vet friend to help save injured animals. From this adventure, to meeting Alastair- the Rosemont Ghost, and his roaming the house and âassistingâ in household needs, and the return of Gordon Mortimer assessing the treasures in the attic, Maggieâs adventures continue. So many twists and turns are encountered as we meet new friends, share happy moments with old friends, and celebrate an engagement, Barbara keeps us turning the pages too quickly. Book 10 is as enchanting as all the previous books, and leaves us wanting Book 11 to come quickly, so we can share even more adventures. I canât wait to see what happens next to Maggie and all her friends. Will Gordon and Anita become more than friends, and will Maggie be a Grandma again, Book 11 will bring us answers. Love Love Love these books, you will too.

A Favorite Series
The Rosemont Series is one of my favorite series, and I was honored to receive an ARC of Book 10, Waves of Grace.John and Maggie have traveled to Connecticut to do some leaf peeping. While staying in Linden Falls, there is a raging forest fire and many animals are displaced and being brought to a new animal shelter that has not yet officially opened. John rolls up his sleeves to give a helping hand to give care to the injured pets, while Maggie helps by setting up crates and just giving loving comfort to the pets. Life isnât always easy and for Maggie there is always something just around a corner.Barbara has also introduced a new character, Alistair, the ghost of Rosemontâs butler from years past. A sense of humor and a heart of gold makes one wish he haunted their home. I am so happy that Barbara has linked the Wishing Tree series through this book, by the trip to Linden Falls, and having Steve and Pam honeymoon in Westbury. I also love that the timeline is in November, with so many people coming to a pot luck Thanksgiving dinner at Rosemont, and kicking off the holiday season. How could anything possibly be more perfect than this!

Treat yourself!
What a delightful read! It was like old home week – meeting up with friends we know, but haven’t seen for a while. Author Barbara Hinske also crosses over her characters from the Wishing Tree Series in a most enjoyable way. Although not without moments of tension and concern, especially for Maggie Martin, Alistair, the ghost, adds some light moments to ease the stress. The redemptive thread that runs through her book warms the heart. Treat yourself to this great read!

Another Enjoyable Read in the Rosemont Series
One of the great things about a book series is the opportunity to revisit characters and follow their development over time. The author has included so many fun details that even Rosemont â the grand old home of the main characters â feels like a human character to me.Waves of Grace continues the story of Maggie and John and their growing circle of friends that are like family. Thereâs even an overlap of some characters from the Wishing Tree series, which is another great read. There are some mysterious things happening at Rosemont and Maggie and John are beginning to wonder if rumors of a resident ghost are true. Preparations for their annual Thanksgiving celebration are underway and include a growing guest list. And just when she thought the scandal surrounding her ex-husband had been put to rest, new allegations surface that threaten to damage her reputation and career.Join the fun as these characters support each other and gather to celebrate the start of the holiday season together.
