Amazing adventure and thriller!!
Bach does amazing job of combining a mystery and adventure together. He integrates the complexity of ptsd in an amazing plot that keeps you in the edge of your seat! Bachâs writing is entertaining, detailed and fast paced. One of the best books Iâve read in a long time. This is a must read for all!!

This Yearâs Best Book
W.L. Bach has written this yearâs thriller! I canât remember the last time a book kept me guessing until the very end but this one did!The Suicide Detective is suspenseful and shocking but also satisfying as W.L. Bach skillfully weaves together flashbacks with present narrative to propel the novel toward its climax. The bookâs twists are surprising but also make sense which is something I so appreciate in a thriller. However, to simply call The Suicide Detective a thriller doesnât do it justice. Itâs also inherently a love story. Itâs about Amberâs love for her best friends/German Shepherds, Razor and Nikita. Itâs about Amberâs love for her fellow veterans and for justice. Ultimately, itâs also a story of lost love and redemptive love.W.L. Bach is a master at creating sympathetic characters. Amber is a believable heroine and youâll find yourself rooting hard for her. Razor and Nikita are now at the top of my list of lovable literary animals.I wonât say more for fear of spoilers but trust me, youâll want to grab a cup of coffee, curl up with your favorite canine companion and this novel!

An Amazing Military Story!
This amazing military story grabbed me from the first page. It was extremely well written with i tensely compelling real characters. The storyline never let go, though I found I had to put it down on occasion just to breathe and come back to reality before I was driven to immerse myself in the story again! Excellent story depicting the foibles and the heroics of humanity and dogs.

Fast-paced thriller with something for everyone
I was so absorbed in Bach’s second book that I couldn’t put it down. He has skillfully crafted a story with so many twists and turns that you’re never sure what will happen next, and a female protagonist who is a true heroine. Amber is tough and emotionally closed-off, but also fragile and trying to come to terms with her past and acclimate to civilian life with her service dog after her time as a dog handler in the military. There is tragedy and sadness here, but also hope, love and moving forward after difficult experiences. And of course, the story is a non-stop, tension-filled journey about a cover-up of recent vet suicides that will keep you on the edge of your seat.Bach is a vet, so has personal and vast knowledge of military operations, as well as the part dogs play in protecting their handlers, not to mention the criminally under-covered suicide rate of vets suffering with PTSD when they return from serving their country. He puts all that experience to use in this beautifully written novel, using flashbacks to combat operations and the deep bond shared between a military service dog and its handler to full effect. So whether you’re a vet, someone who supports vets, a dog lover, or just a fan of excellently written thrillers, you won’t be disappointed. I can even envision a sequel to this story, if Bach is so inclined, and am sure it would be equally compelling and moving. I know I’d buy it, but either way, I look forward to anything else this wonderful writer has to offer.

Read this one !
Incredible story telling that hits so many emotional issues with truth. The pain of veteran suicide, the loyalty of working dogs, the bond among warriors, and the strength of forgiveness. Written from experience and from the heart.

Serious issues addressed with fiction
This is the authorâs second book. Readers of both books will notice improved skills in how he weaves his mysteries. Like many writers, the storytelling improves with each new novel. This story begins with combat operations to capture a terrorist in Iraq. Then it mostly plays out in the Western Slope Colorado towns of Montrose and Grand Junction after the protagonist is released from the Army. The location of the story in Colorado has a feel like a regional authorâs books with its inclusion of bits of local color that inform the reader about the area while maintaining the main plot of the story of the novel. The main characters are an Army dog handler, Sergeant Amber Downing and her heroic dog Razor. Serious issues like suicide and crime and heart-tugging sentiments keep the reader wanting to find out what comes next in this fast-paced book.
