ONE OF THE WORLD’S FAVOURITE DETECTIVES RETURNS.
SIX MILLION BOOKS READ.
A BRAND-NEW MYSTERY FROM THE BESTSELLING AUTHOR SET IN THE BEAUTIFUL WELSH COUNTRYSIDE.
Six passengers in a locked train carriage. One of them is dead. No one saw a thing.
Former Detective Hillary Greene is off on holiday. For a blissful two weeks, her life will be free of murder victims, murder suspects — and, best of all, no paperwork. She’s heading for the beautiful Welsh town of Hay-on-Wye, where she plans to spend her time browsing old bookshops and generally relaxing.
Hillary arrives at the picturesque Riverside Inn where the other guests are an eclectic bunch: a charming Irishman, a rich American and his spoilt daughter, a thrice-married Canadian influencer, a wealthy widow and a taciturn taxidermist.
The next day, Hillary and her fellow guests set off on a steam train ride through the stunning Cambrian Mountains. But when the train arrives at its final destination, not all the passengers get off.
One of them has been stabbed neatly and cleanly through the heart.
Which of the five passengers who shared the carriage is the killer? And how come no one saw a thing . . . ?
Perfect for fans of Betty Rowlands, Agatha Christie, L.J. Ross, J.R. Ellis, M.C. Beaton, or Clare Chase.

THE DETECTIVE
DI Hillary Greene: An attractive, single woman in her fifties, Hillary Greene was a police officer of many years’ experience (earning the rank of DI) and came up through the ranks. Consequently, she knew how the system worked, and was always fiercely loyal to the force without being blinkered to its faults. Forced to retire early through no fault of her own, she has now returned to the force as a civilian consultant on cold cases.

Lots to think about in Murder on the Train in order to try an work out the answer. A brilliant read (as usual from Faith Martin ð) full of some lovely location descriptions; excellent characters with diverse personalities and a fabulous storyline. Loved it and canât wait for #22 more

Former Detective Hillary Martin rashly goes on holiday in Wales and, somewhat inevitably perhaps, is soon up to her ears in her very own “locked-room + murder on the Welsh mountain express” hybrid mystery. (Did someone set author Faith Martin a challenge?)Whatever the origins of the novel, it’s another well-written, engaging story in this always reliable series.I hope Mrs Martin will now head back to Oxford – and I have a feeling that the promising Ian may follow her there …
Helen Hughan –
Another great Hilary Greene episode. Well written, good story line. Looking forward to the next one
Trackman –
This is a very well written novel, which keeps the reader’s interest for chapter after chapter. It has a very interesting conclusion.Recommended.
What a ripoff. Jar was only 3/4 full. –
I have read every book of Faith Martin. Totally good reads

I want to book a room at the Riverside Inn
I think Faith Martin took some time off from writing – SO GLAD SHE’S BACK! Consistently great mysteries, likeable (or at least relatable) characters, and genius at describing scenery (sights, scents, sounds). Always wonderful to tag along with her protagonist, Hillary Greene, former D.I., on her quest for answers. This time she’s on holiday in a picturesque village in Wales. A perfect book for a hot summer day in California.

Hillary Greene returns
Very nice to have another entry in the Hillary Greene series. Sheâs on a vacation, partly to bring copies of her first novel to several bookshops in a village in Wales. She ends up using her DI skills. Youâll have to read it to find out the details. There were many other characters and it was hard to get a good picture of any of them. Still, I love Faith Martinâs work, and this series in particular. This can be read as a standalone, but I recommend the whole series because Hillary is such a great character. I hope there will be other Hillary Greene books.

Another excellent Faith Martin book about Hillary Greene on holiday this time
Hillary decides to take a vacation in Wales at a mountain resort. A murder occurs and she is back on the job again, with the blessing of her boss who allows her to assist the local police. There are only 6 people in the train carriage when the murder occurs. All of the other passengers are suspected at 1 point or another. The DI assigned to the case is very green and is very appreciative of Hillary’s help. In an important tangent, one of the passengers is hooked up with a local drug dealer and the drug dealer attempts to get rid of Hillary to protect his mark. Hillary survives, the drug dealer is arrested, and the murderer is identified. This is a great book that I rate 9 of 10.

Better than I expected
I had stopped buying the Hillary Greene series. They all seemed to be the same story.Murder on the Train was different and very good. She was more of a consultant helping out the local police. I am glad I took a chance on Hillary Greene again.

Love Hillary Greene Mysteries–Read Them All (And Want More!)
I have read every Hillary Greene Mystery (in order), so am very close to the character. Am always delighted to be back in her world. When she checks into the Riverside Inn on vacation in the Wales small town of Hay-on-Wye, I wondered for awhile where did the train from the book title come in. After a bit, yes indeed, a train ride up a mountain to a destination waterfall site came about with all the Inn’s current inhabitants in attendance. Good thing that each coach only held 6 passengers and Hillary had to sit in another away from her fellow Inn mates. When everyone disembarked at their destination, the elderly widow still sat in her seat not moving. Yep, dead…murdered enroute, in fact (with the other passengers in the same coach?!). Consequently, she teams up with the local DI, Ian Jones, who we delight in his ever-increasing amazement of Hillary’s abilities. (We already are aware of them and love to show her off to other unsuspecting folks, cops or not.)Not only was the Mystery truly one for me (didn’t guess the culprit), but there was a Big Drama side to the story that got Hillary in Big Danger relating to a spoiled rich American young lady staying at the Inn and her penchant for associating with a local violent drug dealer who wanted to use her to expand his territory in the States. He wanted to make good and sure Hillary didn’t mess up his grand scheme.I don’t often leave reviews, but I love Hillary Greene Mysteries SO MUCH that I want to encourage Faith Martin to keep writing them…and for mystery lovers to read them.

Six in the train carriage, one dead
Hillary Greene, retired DI, decided to go on vacation. Only, a murder investigation messes up the vacation, and getting beaten up rather takes the fun out of it. Good story, with enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing, I recommend getting acquainted with DI Hillary Greene.

Another pleasant read by Faith Martin!
This book seemed to go a bit slower than some of the other ones in this series, however I was kept guessing who the killer was until the end.
