From the dungeons of the Inquisition to the last days of the Reconquista and the fall of Granada, this is a sweeping tale of loyalty, betrayal and courage set in medieval Spain.
Seville 1490: Diego Vasquez is one of the city’s most famous painters. His murals and triptychs grace every church and cathedral. But he is also a converso, and so despite his reputation he lives every day in fear.
Raul Beltran is a knight in the service of the king. A man of action. He has everything, except the woman he loves. He’ll do anything to get her.
While the Inquisition hunts for heretics and the Spanish king sets out to capture Granada, Diego and Raul are thrown into their own life and death struggle. Should a man defy his family, his church and even his own ambition for the sake of his soul?

Neville Carter –
Typical Colin Falconer, always a great read.
d t herbert –
Set in Spain at the time of Christian wars against the Moors and the Inquisition. Not of the scale and intensity of other Falconer novels. Too much prolonged focus on love affair. Mixes art, problems of Jews and the cruelty of all sides in the ongoing conflicts.
Josephine T –
Yet another winner from Colin falconer this time on two fronts âsmall and powerful â thatâs both the book and the hero, Diego.

Love this author & excited to read this new release. Seemed to take a while to get going but riveting after that to the end. Twists & turns I never expected right up to the ending. Such a shame I’ve read all this authors books & loved everyone of them. Can’t wait for his next release.

Another good one

Weak plot turns and unrealistic outcomes
Disappointed with the plot although I reluctantly finished the book. Way too many roll your eyes, soft plot outcomes. Never read a book with so many dumb coincidences especially for a novel and author with such great expectations. Simplistic sub plots and easy to guess endings in each chapter.Very disappointing as could have been much much better.
Rhonda Witchen –
this is a great read
I first read Silk Road which was by error actually and became a fan of Colinâs books. I have always steered from war stories etc but I couldnât help getting sucked in by the characters.
P. Carson –
Multiple adventures in Seville and Granada when the Moors still held part of Spain
The Spanish Inquisition stands in terrible contrast to the beauty of the last Moorish stronghold at Granada. The beauty seen by the dwarf.

Brilliant
How Mr Falconer can go from book to book and make the characters all interesting is amazing to me.Well done sir.
Marcian H Foster –
Was interesting. Mongol culture and politics not any different than our politics right now.
Like his books for an interesting evening or afternoon.

Definitely a page turner for those of us who love history
I . Loved the characters and how they were presentedWhat an inspiration, a crippled dwarf as the primary focus
