You’d think nearly dying trying to get out of a too-tight gown in a dressing room and being saved by a strong, competent man was a good thing.
Not so much, though, when that strong, competent man is your ex. Your secret ex.
And the reason you need a gown is because you’re part of a charity auction.
The charity auction where he gets into a bidding war to win you.
And now, because you’re one of few female coaches in professional baseball, and he’s the captain of the local professional hockey team, and he paid a ridiculous sum of money for you…
The entire city is shipping you. You can’t leave your apartment without getting a knowing wink from strangers. Your bosses want to use the publicity to have you jointly launch a new community outreach program.
That’s bad enough. It truly is.
But even worse?
Duncan Lavoie, the green-eyed, curly-haired, dimple-cheeked, hot-as-lava hockey player wants a second chance. And he’ll play dirty to get it.
The Secret Hook-Up is a laugh-out-loud romcom featuring the hot-as-sin hockey captain of the Copper Valley Thrusters, the Copper Valley Fireballs’ lady baseball coach he never got over, and a misbehaving formal gown. It stands alone and comes complete with a happily-ever-after.

I think Pippa Grant was my first author crush, but I know Iâve read every single one of her books! The Secret hook up is fun, but also surprisingly tender. I laughed, but did surreptitiously wiped my eyes a few times when Addie finally realizes Duncan is not going to let her down or take over her life. And again when Duncan finally gets the âI love youâ from the woman heâs loved first years. Sweet and sassy. Strong and tender. Love!

If you want a funny, second chance story, then this is it. With a great bunch of team mates and managers and oh my gosh this was awesome.Narration was superb.

Pippa Grant = my happy place and IMO thereâs no place happier than the Thruster or Fireballs world UNLESS itâs a Fireballs/Thrusters crossover world!!!!Duncan and Addie wereðð»perfect. The banter, the antics, the crazy instance where they meet face to face again⦠honestly, that dressing room sceneâ¦. I felt her pain!!!!I understood Addieâs hesitance and how closed off to a relationship she was initially. Sheâs in a predominantly male sporting field and, regardless of how well sheâs doing or what positive things people say, she still doubts that thereâs security in her role or that sheâs truly wanted for who she is.Duncan was Addieâs biggest champion. He didnât want her to change and he was so supportive of her and everything she was trying to achieve. I loved how he thought about her and that he saw âherâ not the coach she let everyone else see. This pair (and their respective team/teammates) had me laughing at their antics. Both of them had so many people rooting for them and there to support them.âDaddieâ had so much chemistry, heat and passion but it was the other moments between them that showed how fabulous they could be together.A fantastic read. Another hit from Ms Pippa.
Me –
I loved Duncan and Addie’s second-chance at love, as it was the perfect mashup between the Thrusters and the Fireballs series! I’d been looking forward to the hockey captain and the baseball coach’s story and it did not disappoint! It’s funny and swoony with the perfect amount of spice, and I really enjoyed the way the main characters acknowledged and worked on changing the things that’d made their old hook-up fail.Besides, there’re lots of top-notch cameos from beloved characters from previous series, which made this book all the more perfect. Definitely recommend it!
Heart-Felt Fiction Fan –
I donât even remember who my previous ones were. Who were they again? Duncanâs amnesia must be contagious. I love Addie too, but Duncan⦠(insert love-heart eyes and fanning face). If you feel uncomfortable falling in love with fictional characters, do NOT read this book!

Slowwww Burn to HEA
Oh, how I loved all the books and the characters in these series. They are always good for a laugh or two. But, this was a little too slow for me. I felt like it was just a big epilogue of all the characters from the other books, and Addie and Duncan were main/side characters. They just didn’t do it for me.The Secret Hook-Up started awesome. I loved the dressing room scene. Funny.Their second chance romance was a little whiny for me, though, as it progressed. Addie is so insecure, and Duncan had to fight too hard to convince her to like him. He’s a hot hockey player, Hello! So big positive… showing the courage of Paisley to call for a ride and deal with the uncomfortable situation she was put in at a college party and put a light on this subject. Big Kudos!!I loved that Addie was a comfort for her. But why would Duncan automatically get worried towards Addie and their relationship? Is it that unstable? Red Flag! And he talks about retiring over and over… ok, retire. LolThere were some sexy parts and “sexts” as they dealt with conflicting schedules.Cute overall. If you like the other series, you will like the update on the other couples.

Another hilarious, heartwarming, electric read from Pippa Grant!
Another hilarious, heartwarming, electric read from Pippa Grant!I’ve been waiting for Duncan’s story since I first met him while reading Beauty and the Beefcake knowing that this green eyed, heartbroken hunk had to have story. To find out that the other half of his love story would be Addie Bloom, bad ass batting coach for the Fireballs, I couldn’t have been more excited! The Copper Valley Thrusters are my favorite fictional hockey team (and fictional team, in general), and The Secret Hook-Up included all the shenanigans, laughs and found family only Grant can provide. The fact that the Fireballs were involved too only made this story better.I loved how complex Addie was. She’s broken ceilings in her career but learned the hard way that as a female in professional baseball she had to follow a different set of rules than he male counterparts. Beneath her touch veneer, she cares so deeply and so hard, even as she tries not to.Duncan is just an absolute cinnamon roll. A man who’s been hurt before but all he wants is love. Addie’s love, to be specific. They hurt each other once before, but Duncan’s sincerity and patience in pursuing Addie the second time is just heart melting. The chemistry between Duncan and Addie is off the charts! But beyond that, just like with all of Grant’s books, I found myself legitimately laughing out loud and smiling like a loon at my kindle due to the hilarious and ridiculous situations these two and their respective teams find themselves in.Paisley, Duncan’s niece, was my absolute favorite side character, bringing humor and levity simultaneously to her uncle’s various problems, while just being a cool chick. The Secret Hook-Up is a fun, spirit lifting, steamy read for anytime, but especially if you’re looking to smile.

The sales lady is nowhere to be found and a familiar male voice comes to her aid instead. Unfortunately once the dress is off, she realizes the voice belongs to her ex, Duncan Lavoie. They had a secret friends-with-benefits situation that ended four year ago.Duncan never stopped pining for Addie, and at the auction he goes into a bidding war to win a date with her. She is in demand because she is one of the few female coaches in professional baseball. And being that he is the captain of the local professional hockey team, he winds up paying a ridiculous amount of money. And not only does Addie have to keep the agreed date, their bosses want to use the publicity from the auction to launch a new community outreach program. How will they handle being back in each otherâs lives? There were also moments when I cried and lots of times when I swooned. Addie was so fiercely independent, determined, and driven. I truly loved everything about her persona. Duncan was SO sweet and I adored the way he pined for Addie and how passionate he was about proving himself. And the slow burn was absolutely worth it. I definitely recommend this to any rom-com lover!

Yay, Duncan!
Iâve been hoping for a long time that Duncan would get a book, and this did not disappoint. It stays true to Pippaâs styleâtight pacing, a realistic plot, and characters that stay true to form but have room to grow. Thereâs no juvenile game playing. Always a one-click for me.

Great slow burn romance with wonderful HEA
This was a fun read even if the heroines job as batting coach of men’s baseball team was a bit of a challenge to believe in. Once you got over that, that character development and romance between the two characters was entertaining and heart warming. You can’t put the book down, because you’re rooting for them so much. The side characters contribute to the enjoyment of the book even if you haven’t the previous books they were taken from. I especially enjoyed no third act break up as well. Overall, this book has got most of what romance books are all about.
