Brynn has spent the better part of her life waiting for the chance to attend the annual market hosted by the Kenta, the very same people who exiled the Alaha to live a life over the sea. A rite of passage for all young guards, she’s not sure what to expect from it, but breaking a century- long peace treaty certainly isn’t on her map.
Neither is the encounter with an enemy soldier.
Returning home to Alaha, she’s confronted with the aftermath of the day’s events. The future is uncertain as the threat of hunger looms over the people. With rumors of a growing rebellion, Brynn and her closest friends promise to stick together.
When an unexpected visitor arrives, Brynn’s loyalty will be tested as she learns of a world of magic and treachery. Once her enemy, always her enemy, right? But the dark, knowing eyes of a stranger make her question everything…
…including her heart.

This book although has good plot, it needed some refinement and better character development between fmc and mcc. Also at some points I didnât understand if fmc is in her bodyâs form or the mcc mind.

I don’t write many reviews but this book took my breath away. The ending was a real rollercoaster. In fact my smart watch told me I was showing high levels of stress and should relax! What a ride. This book needs more hype. Please please read it.

NEED BOOK 2 NOW
This is an absolutely stunning read. So much stuffed in 400+ pages. This will be a 5 star read for me this year. The magic system is so different then other stories. Acker is one of my new book crushes. Can’t wait for the next book. Hoping it isn’t to far in the future.

the best book of the year
I went into this not knowing what to expect and my god, my jaw is on the floor. This is absolutely the best book of the year. I was already highly invested in this book, from the very beginning youâre taken into the world and in the middle of chaos and it just never slows down. Then you get to the very endâ¦and I am absolutely SHOOK. Please please please come out with the next book ASAP! I will never recover from this cliffhanger

NOOOO⦠another unreliable narrator ruining a 5+ star book ðð
Iâm going to start by saying I was enthralled by this book from the first page. The world, the magic, the political intrigue⦠all superb. The characters – both main and secondary – were so well developed and the slow burn romance between the two MCs was chefs kiss. The spice was perfection. The twists and turns were so well written. At times it had a whodunit vibe which kept me itching for more. All of it was RUINED by an unreliable narrator plot device in a last chapter twist that made me so mad I almost threw my kindle. What a cheap way to take an entire character and throw it down the toilet.I canât describe how much I detest when writers choose to do this. The audacity of feeding the reader thoughts, reactions, and behaviors from the MCs point of view that are entirely false for an entire book.Do better. I should take away more stars.

Add To Your TBR Immediately!!!
I absolutely loved this romantasy book. It immediately sucked me into the story and I was invested in the characters and relationships from chapter 1! I also appreciated that there was more show don’t tell in establishing the depths and histories of all those relationships. It usually takes me a while to get into a new fantasy book because there’s so much world building to take in and names etc – I didn’t feel that way AT ALL with Metal Slinger. The world building was effective without being overwhelming, and you got more as needed. I was intrigued by the world and the unique magic system there. It’s fast paced, so I never felt a lull while reading. You also get a great slow burn enemies to lovers romance in there, and the tension was SO GOOD. The ending had me BESIDE MYSELF and GASPING!! SOOO GOOD!!! I genuinely cannot wait for book 2, I’m going to devour it immediately. This book deserves SO MUCH more hype!

Best of 2024
This is an absolute show stopper. I cannot breathe and this ⦠oh god, itâs that high that readers are chasing. This will be in many readers top books of 2024, mine included. Go in with as little information as possible for the best experience.

Heart Pounding Ending!
This was one of my top reads this year, a book I will never forget! Metal Slinger takes you on an adventure from the very first page, and the plot twist at the end was the most unexpected twist Iâve ever read.I loved the strong FMC Jovie, we go on a journey with her to âhomeâ along with the MMC Acker. Along the way the romance will make you kick your feet and put you in all the feels. The world building is so easy to follow and unique. I loved the magical creatures they encounter, and the dead forest and the mysteries that come along on the adventure. The magic system is so unique, and each character adds their own element into the magical system. There was also a very unique spicy scene in this book that will forever live rent free in my head. And I might never be able to look at a cocktail glass the same way again.Rachel, you really blew me away with this book and I will forever be recommending this book. Thank you!!

Fast-paced, beautiful writing without it being too flowery
For fans of SHADOW AND BONE, THE ZODIAC ACADEMY, and A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES.The moment I saw the cover, I knew it’d be a great story. What I didn’t realize until I started reading it, was how AMAZING the story is. It all comes down to the writing for me. I enjoy fantasy books, but sometimes I can lose concentration or get bogged down if the writing is too flowery, too descriptive. Schneider does an amazing job of not only describing the world her characters in, as well as her characters, but also creating intensity and action. It is a page-turner, especially once you hit chapter 2. It’s game on then. It’s interesting, and intriguing, and the characters are likable, and at times scary. It’s a creative world to be thrust into, and again, the writing is enjoyable, which really is what makes a book enjoyable for me. I could not put it down, my eyes closing as I kept pushing myself to read one more page. The struggles and push and pull between characters is fantastic. I am beyond ready for Book 2!
