The Curse of the Cobra Goddess – anytime man desecrates or violates the cobra, they are doomed to suffer the petrifying curse of the snake woman, of death and infertility. Only respect and worship can keep the population safe and the women fertile. Over 4000 years ago the inhabitants of the Indus Valley sculpted the image of the shape shifting snake. These half cobras, half human creatures were said to inhabit an awesome, mysterious temple, made of material unknown to mankind, deep within the jungles, far, far away in the legendary spice forests of the Malabar Coast. Children grew up hearing about the story recounted to their grandfathers, by their forefathers about an ancestor, who had journeyed to the edge of the world, and came back to recount a frightening story about the Snake Goddess and her mate…. and from here the legend travelled across India, and the far east along the silk route – passed on from generation to generation for thousands of years until this day. It is the year 2008, an American man, named George, packing high tech gear, and evil intentions, makes the arduous journey into the heart of the forbidden forest. He captures a male cobra the size of a large python when he’s at his weakest, while mating. Little does he realize when they embark on testing this mysterious creature in their high-tech lab, what horror and destruction awaits him….

Definitely different kind of movie mindset
Good gawd this was bad. In a MST3K kind of way. I know India’s bollywood produce way more pictures than American studio’s, but 1) they do not know how to produce a good movie or 2) their tastes are very far removed than other cultures. The CGI was OK. Sci-Fi channel OK. The lead actress, Mallika Sherawat, was absolutely stunning. Bad actress, but amazingly beautiful. The other actors were OK, but still pretty flat. The directing and editing was horrendous. Long, long shots that should have been edited down. Very little dialogue (and in hindsight, that’s a good thing). The story was, well I guess, a myth India is familiar with and make many assumptions for the viewer. Many times I had no idea what was going on or why. I am absolutely blown away, this had a bollywood dance scene thrown in. Why? I have no ****ing idea. Just a filler and weird. The dollar was good to watch the sexy snakewoman – Mallika

Not as bad as alot of people seem to think
You have to take a movie for what it is. What this is not is a big blockbuster. Also, I was not looking for brilliant acting nor a brilliant storyline; I did not expect this film at the academy awards. What I did expect was a storyline that made sense, was easy to follow and most of all, special effects. I got what I expected and what I paid for. The movie is Okay-3 stars. I bumped the movie up to 4 stars due to the uniqueness of the movie. With plethora of werewolf, alien, vampire, and zombie movies it’s nice to see something different. I was digging the originality. The movie was not great, but not as bad as a lot of people seem to think. 4 stars.

Hissss
Don’t worry–no spoilers here. Hsss is a Bollywood special. I’d rate the movie about a C+. Special effects are B-movie-ish. While the female lead is beautiful, I found the plot itself started with promise, but ended with a “sputter.” I have a special DVD player that allows me to watch movies from multiple regions — this particular edition was not made for the US region. Double check the region for the DVD before you buy.

The French Blu-ray removed a scene in the movie
They removed a scene that would have been between 24 minutes and 43 seconds and 25 minutes and 58 seconds. It was a minor scene I don’t know why they cut it out to begin with. I loved that scene and what they did is starting to make me reconsider my purchase of the Blu-ray.
