NOTE from the Department of National Records Preservation (By a FOIA [Freedom of Information Act] Request) that was filed on September 22, 2040, this copy of the document known as “Black Friday, the Accidental Third War, Book 1” is released only for historical purposes. It is not to be released to any foreign entity.

The journal is a series of notebooks discovered in August 2037 when the Army’s First Response team arrived in the author’s neighborhood to restore power and take a census of the survivors. The author wrote most of the journal in first person, and the Department of National Records Preservation has decided to leave it as is. Some misspellings may be due to how English was spoken and written before the war. An interesting note: the author, whom the locals called the Elder, with much respect, had a name for the war; he called it “The Accidental Third World War.” The Director of the department, Ryan Longshot, said that was a very appropriate name for the war, and we would now use that when discussing the Third World War.

Fortunately, the Army officer in charge of the company that checked on the survivors in South Knoxville recognized the importance of the notebooks. In reading the journals, she learned the horrible truth that the Third World War had been started by an over-eager AI.

These journals give us an insight into how the war started and how at least one community not only survived but grew to become one of the most important communities in the Southeast district.

Future journals will be released as they are transcribed and reviewed by the Department of National Records Preservation. Expect to see a journal released every quarter. As always, the Department strives to locate and verify the accuracy of located documents. The Department has classified these journals as NOFORN distribution. They can be reviewed in the presence of a member of the Department.

Interesting in parts but too glib and superficial to earn 5 stars. The characters are cliched to a disappointing degree. Small community funds itself with vicar, cop, military vets who just happen to have survived. Real problems would occur when you finish scavenging but still have to provide hundreds of people with sufficient calories over the years to survive. Cannibalism anyone? Would surely happen

Mr Tabanakin never fail to provide an awesome story to something that is really quite a disturbing all to possible scenario.Having read a great deal of his work I look forward to how the characters in this book react to there ever changing fate.As a side note this book contains a lot of very useful advice and is not just a work of fiction, read carefully but also enjoy.

Military thriller with a non-stop flow of facts that make this book not only fun, but plausible!
Black Friday is a gripping and intense novel that imagines a world devastated by the accidental nuclear conflict.Tabankin skillfully weaves a narrative filled with political intrigue, military strategy, and unforeseen consequences, keeping readers on edge throughout. The characters are well-developed, and the plot is both thought-provoking and unsettlingly plausible. While some might find the political elements heavy-handed, the overall storytelling and fast-paced action make this book a compelling read for fans of military political thrillers!

No super commandos just normal people
I have read many TEOTWAWKI novels over the years and enjoyed reading this one very tvmuch. It is not a politically correct story and demonstrates the mindset of many people today if they were ever faced with a serious disaster. Sadly, it represents many that live in our area. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

    Kind of cringe
So the problem with writing a book like this, is your going to get people who know more than the author about certain bits. Its not the author’s fault, he can’t know everything. It was very difficult to get through. I just kept saying to myself, that’s now how that works, that’s not how that works.

    Top Notch Thriller
I have read a lot of books about the collapse of civilization, and this is one of the best. It is a genuinely scary read. I don’t want to give too much away, but it addresses issues of machine sentience and the risk of automating decisions that should be made by humans, and trusting Artificial Intelligence. I hope the author writes a sequel, his description of the end of law and order immediately following a nuclear exchange is fascinating and haunting. Thank you, Amazon.com, this great book, at a great price, was very enjoyable!
