Bought this at Blockbuster for $6.99
I saw this on the Blockbuster sale table of previewed videos and though, “hmmm… sword flick”. I read the back and it sounded interesting so I bought it. As others have said, Gary doesn’t even use a sword in this movie. I kept waiting for him to whip one out, but he never did. The movie itself is pretty good for low budget. The music is a mixed bag. Some of it is good, but for the most part it’s annoying. I do like the fact they used an alternative band instead of the typical rap music crap. The fight scenes are realistic in that there are no fancy super power moves, just good ole fashioned martial arts against martial arts. And that’s a good thing. The gushing sounds you hear when people get stuck in the heart with a knife could’ve been left out. Some scenes just seemed like they were filmed in the same location, or locations that didn’t require anything but a camera and the side of a building. I could’ve sworn Gary’s law office and the CCO office looked like exactly the same place from the inside. You have to expect that kinda thing with low budget films. The rental of the huge house was probably most of the budget. That being said, it was mediocre as an action movie and there were times when the acting seemed strained. It’s decent if you like low budget action movies, but it’s subpar except for the three fight scenes in the movie.

âDoes the government train you guys to talk like this or do you write this […] yourselves?â
The brief alliance between action star Gary Daniels and director Darren Doane (Saving Christmas) resulted in two movies, only one of which got a DVD release. Surprisingly, it wasn’t the star-studded âUltimate Targetâ but this oddball experiment wherein the only recognizable name is Daniels himself. âBlack Fridayâ is among the strangest flicks the British Danger Man has in his filmography, and it’s far from his best. I’m not sure if it’s one of his worst, but it’s definitely not for everyone. The story: When the home of a former black ops agent (Daniels, Tekken) is taken over by aggressors in possession of a devastating weapon, he must break past the government security to rescue his family.Director Doane has not made an action movie, here, but an artistic thriller. This rough-around-the-edges adventure carries just enough fighting and shooting to earn the action label, but instead of exciting the viewer, its main objective is to see how long it can stretch your attention before reaching its eventual twist. The film regularly takes three times as long as other movies to depict almost any event â whether it’s an investigation scene, an assassination, or a character walking down the hallway â and there are many times when the fast-forward button was my best friend. The movie mixes stark scenery with a schizophrenic soundtrack to create an uneasy mood that I never got used to, ensuring that I never connected with the story. The DVD cover features Gary holding a sword that’s nowhere to be seen in the movie. Beyond this, the sparse action content is less disappointing than it is odd. Daniels’ initial bout with action coordinator Tsuyoshi Abe is fairly conventional, if longer than the average brawl and paced differently. The showdown with villain Ryan Kos runs even longer â at least three minutes â and it’s pretty weird for Kos’ reliance on an obvious double and an odd sequence wherein the two fighters are suddenly performing against a black backdrop. The art show never ends with this movie, even when it comes to something as basic as kickboxing. For reasons I can’t explain, I went into this movie with high hopes. Maybe someone who approaches it with more even expectations will have a better time, but I am pretty disappointed at having wasted mine. This is not a movie for Gary Daniels fans â it’s not even for general action lovers. Should this one fall into your hands, treat it as the experiment it was meant to be.

The picture made the movie look older than it really is

a waste
Having bought it for the low price, and having seen the star in major roles I expected more then I received. According to the build up of action and the samurai sword swinging on the cover it didn’t show up. What did show up was bad to terrible acting, and yes, even from the star. It will be some time before I buy or even rent another of his shot to video movies. I don’t recommend this film at all, not at any price.

Some of the scenes skip or freeze
I was so excited to find this movie and finally get to watch it. When it arrived I immediately put in the dvd player and it began freezing and skipping – I cleaned the dvd and it kept happening, very disappointed.

This is a great movie!
First off, this movie is awesome! The description on the package is pretty straight forward, but the movie isn’t. Plenty of plot twists to keep you off balance. Awesome music, I wish the soundtrack was available! The fights were great, one of the fights looked like something out of a Tekken or a Dead or Alive video game. The camera work wasn’t the best, the CGI wasn’t great, and some of the dialogue was just bad, but all in all, this movie suprised me, and I’m so glad I got it. One major disappointment, Gary Daniels is holding a katana on the package, but unfortunately, there’s no swords in the movie so you don’t get to see Daniels take someone out with a sword. Also the ending was slow, and you’re not quite sure what happens to his family. Buy this movie if you’re an action/martial arts fan, you won’t be disappointed!

not bad for low budget
this movie was quite good. yo can really tell that the cast and crew did their best to make sure that it is a good movie, but i think that what stopped them was the money. they didn have the budget to make it as interessting as it could be. but the fight scenes are great, the way the camera move during the fight scene is well done, the soundtrack was awesome, but still, i feel that there were something missing… but at the same time i love this movie.
