Would you like to be able to read and write Japanese perfectly in just a few weeks? Here are the 5 steps you need to take:
THE BASICS – Do you want the best possible start to learning Japanese? Before it makes sense to learn vocabulary or grammar, you need to be able to read hiragana and katakana characters. Without this foundation, you’ll learn the language wrong from the start and make it unnecessarily difficult for yourself. It has never been easier to learn this foundation than with this intelligently designed workbook.
LEARN TO WRITE – Do you want to be able to write Japanese? Whether it’s for work, traveling or immigrating to Japan, knowing how to write is essential. Japanese characters follow a strict stroke order, which this book will teach you in a simple and understandable way. By the end, you will be able to do it in your sleep.
PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE – Can’t remember the characters? Memorizing the 92 characters is the first big challenge in learning Japanese. Through constant practicing, writing down and intelligent repetition exercises, you can master this challenge as quickly and effectively as possible with our workbook.
UNDERSTANDABLE EXPLANATION – You don’t just want to learn blindly, you also want to understand? A lack of understanding can cause major problems later on when learning vocabulary, grammar and the complicated kanji characters. Our exercise book solves this problem by working with explanatory texts. These give you a deep insight into Japanese culture, the history of the language and why they use two alphabets instead of just one, for example.
BIG BONUS – Do you want an overall concept that works? Many very important topics, such as correct pronunciation, cannot be explained in one book alone. That’s why you’ll find video lessons from experienced Japanese teachers linked to QR codes at regular intervals. This makes our writing book the most effective overall concept when it comes to learning and perfecting Japanese from scratch.

Helps me a lot with Hiragana and Katakana, I wish it had some blank pages and sentence practice.

A Fun Way to Learn Japanese Characters
Learning Hiragana and Katakana has been a lot of fun with this workbook. Itâs very beginner-friendly, with step-by-step guides and plenty of practice pages. I also like how the book introduces Romaji first, which makes it easier to transition into the Japanese characters. The added video lessons are a great bonus, helping to reinforce what Iâm learning. Iâd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn Japanese in a structured way.

Practical Learning
This Japanese learning guide is more than just a workbook; itâs a structured plan for mastering hiragana and katakana. The book stands out by teaching you the correct way to write each character, something that videos and apps often skip. I appreciated the step-by-step instructions on stroke order, which made a huge difference in my practice. The repetition drills are tough but effective, and the book even offers links to additional online tools. Itâs a solid resource for anyone serious about learning Japanese, especially if you want to get the basics right.

Great Book
The book provides a well-structured introduction to learning hiragana and katakana, with a focus on writing exercises. QR code-linked videos enhance the learning experience. The approach makes learning both enjoyable and effective, making it a great resource for mastering these Japanese alphabets.

Complete and effective
I am an absolute beginner with Japanese and as the introduction of the book says, it is essential to start off on the right foot with this language by learning to read and write idograms. This book offers many sections where the theoretical bases are explained and tips are given (even with external videos) on how to write characters and then there is a large part of the manuscript dedicated to practice. Complete and effective. I received a free copy of the book and am deliberately reviewing it.

Accessible Introduction to Japanese Hiragana and Katakana
“The One and Only Japanese Workbook” offers an accessible introduction to the Japanese writing systems of hiragana and katakana. The book takes a methodical approach, introducing characters gradually with ample space for practice. Each character is presented with stroke order diagrams and lined areas for repetition, allowing learners to develop proper writing technique. One of the book’s strengths is its focus on practical application. It includes useful tables summarizing both hiragana and katakana, as well as explanations of how these syllabaries are used in modern Japanese. The inclusion of QR codes linking to supplementary video lessons is a nice touch, though the book does not rely on these external resources. The workbook also provides a brief introduction to kanji and discusses next steps for learners, such as preparing for the JLPT N5 exam. This gives readers a sense of direction for continuing their studies beyond the scope of this book. While the content is solid, the book’s layout and design are fairly basic. Some learners may prefer more visually engaging materials.Overall, “The One and Only Japanese Workbook” serves as a solid foundation for beginners looking to master hiragana and katakana. Its straightforward approach and emphasis on writing practice make it a useful tool for those taking their first steps in learning written Japanese. While not revolutionary, it accomplishes its core goal of teaching the basics of the Japanese syllabaries effectively.

Very useful for beginners!
This was my first step into learning Japanese and was extremely useful in steering me towards the right videos, how to write, and gave a decent overview on the origins of kana.I highly recommend this book if you get overwhelmed by learning on your own or donât know how to start learning a language.

Great; however, I found a typo
This workbook is great! Writing out the letters repeatedly and consistently received has helped my memorization so much! Not sure if it was just the copy I received, but I found a small typo on page 82. It’s showing how to write the hiragana letter for “mo” but it says it’s “wa” Proud of myself for noticing though! Means it’s working!
