The Merry Band of Pirates stopped the enemy from stealing a Sentinel, and destroyed its Elder starship, so why weren’t the Pirates planning a victory party?

The enemy was not what they thought it was.

It was much, much worse.

They had not a single clue how to defeat that enemy, or how to fight it, or whether fighting it was even possible. Only one thing was certain: the Pirates couldn’t handle this fight alone.

Can’t wait for the next one, will be happy when it arrives.Nice cliff hanger, and will be interesting to see how they get out of this one!

Quality of the series, just keeps you reading. With great mix, of characters. Keeps you guessing.I must have read, over 20 of his books. Keep them coming.

If this series had finished, as planned, I would have been happy because it’s been a wonderful journey.I liked this instalment as Joe had to grow up and make some hard calls The closing set piece is simply off the scale, great story telling.Wherever these books go next, I’m sure it will be a wild ride and then please stop, don’t waste the awesomeness!

  4. Not Happy

I came to these books late so read all 17 back to back. Amazing books, the banter between the 2 main characters can become a bit repetitive reading them b2b but I imagine it’s great reading them as published, you know, with a bit of a gap. Book 17 has a welcome if unexpected & brief return for one of the pirates. I really can’t get enough of these books.

    Interesting Twists
I’ve always liked Craig’s twists and turns in his style. He’s building to an interesting series end and I’ll hang in there for his big finish. I can’t wait to see how it ends.My only negative is the grammar/spelling … you know … where the word is completely wrong but spelled correctly. A human proofreader catches those errors. There are way too many of them.

    you rat!
Super great plot line and execution of the storyline! Really enjoyed the whole book.Lots of physics defying adventures! But you left us with a 1930s cliffhanger that will – of course- take a Skippy miracle to recover the story’s ending., curse you for making us wait!!!Great Job!!!

    Amazing series
I have read all of the books in the series twice. Skippy never fails to amaze and the interactions with Joe are always fascinating. I laugh, get worried, laugh, high five an imaginary individual then laugh again.

    Wow. Great fun and fast-moving
Greatly enjoyed the latest installment in the Merry Band of Pirates tales. Strongly recommend this (and all of the previous books). Love the way it weaves the many threads of the previous stories together.Cheers.

    Oh Wow!!!!!!
Book 17 does not disappoint and Alanson is not losing any steam. The stakes are higher, Joe and Skippy still have their sharp dialogue, insults, and deep friendship. Oh, and Skippy is still up to his neck in sketchy borderline illegal activities. As is our favorite Jeraptha Scorandum. Strangely, with Emily Perkins as a major general, she stopped being sleazy and creative staff officer. Hmmmm…

  10. Omega

    Not Exactly Like The Others
EF book 17 is not exactly like all the others. Alanson provides the readers with all the Skippy one liners that could be desired. He walks down memory lane tying past characters into the story line. The ECO even has a role. The story plot finds the Merry Band of Pirates a half step behind the “Outsider” until the last chapter with an ending that screams “to be continued.

    Contnues as best SciFy Ever
I’m seventeen books in and I still count the months until the next book. You care about Craig’s characters as well as watch them grow as they learn from their mistakes or not…. The plots and subplots and how it all fits together make the books page-turners. The science is close enough you realize it’s not totally off the cuff. Someday, if we make it as a species into space, I fully expect Craig’s characters there. From the special forces to the ground pounders, on earth or space, he has captured what it is to be part of a military team that puts service before self.

    Stupendous!
Crescendo! The lights come on, not a sound, the audience sits there stunned…gasps, whimpering, disbelief and shuffling as the curtain comes down and the lights come on. This is the magnum opus in a galactic scale. Craig Alanson, has written seventeen clever, witty novels following the endeavors of Everyman Joe Bishop and his superior intelligence being, Skippy the Magnificent. Joe and Skippy have brought their combined intellect to bear in order to toy with the top tier species of the galaxy. This time it looks like their luck has run out. This wildly entertaining series is worth starting at the beginning and getting to this page turning thriller.I don’t know how you top this one Craig Alanson , but I’m waiting for book number eighteen to see how you unravel this holy convoluted mess humanity is in!!
