not for me its for my son, since schools now insist hard pushed parents buy all the materials they need for the teachers to teach, of course we have to find the cheapest option to keep the teachers in a job due to Govt. funding cuts (allegedly.) The book, apparently it is boring, not much to discuss or précis, only a 100 pages long, so makes me wonder why on earth schools troll out this rubbish, why not offer something the kids would enjoy reading that is contemporary and fun, not something written so long ago that the motor vehicle was only just coming of age and all people had to entertain themselves were these books! Time has moved on, our kids now have far more knowledge than in those Edwardian bygone days and more savvy to know what they want to read, my son enjoys Tom Clancy, Dan Brown et al so no surprise he found this book less than enthralling! But its OK the school didn’t have to shell out so all is well……

    Is this a real publication???
This is one of the strangest and most confusing Amazon purchases I’ve ever made. My daughter is reading through several classics and this was the next one on her list. Upon arrival, it is the size of a magazine and looks like it was typed on printer paper, is double-spaced, and has zero legitimate publication information. Typing on the last page just indicates it was printed 11.14.2024, which was two days before we placed the order. We could not stop laughing at how ridiculous this “book” is. There were grammatical errors and I highly doubt the text is the actual writing of Steinbeck. We immediately began the return process and were refunded with a message saying that we don’t need to send the book back.I realize this was only $5, but this truly felt like a joke. The saying “you get what you pay for” has never felt more true. I guess we will recycle this very odd, very poor excuse of a “publication.”

John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men is a moving tale about dreams and friendship. It beautifully depicts two friend’s living some time in the thirties. The book begins with two men fleeing from an old job and about to begin a new one. The two characters are contrasting but interestingly compatible. The first man, George, is short, sensible and seems to be the mastermind of their plans. The other, Lennie, is tall, dumb and naïve, but charmingly innocent. It becomes obvious that Lennie is clumsy and unaware of his strength, when George takes Lennie’s dead maimed mouse away from him. He is obviously the reason they are constantly fleeing and changing jobs. To cheer Lennie up George tells him of their plans for the future, a story that has obviously been told many times before. He tells of small farm that they would purchase once they have earned enough money, and they could live on there own schedules without having to keep changing jobs. In fact this would be their last. The book is classic story that one can easily engage in. It includes great descriptions of the countryside, the farms and a friendship never to be forgotten. You get a feel for each character and there individual traits. The reader takes a step into the thirties and can see the lives of these men first hand through Steinbeck’s careful and beautiful description. You feel as if you are witnessing the farm’s laborers first hand. Aside from being intriguingly descriptive, Of Mice and Men is truly touching. You encounter first hand a relationship between two men that is indescribable. You truly feel George’s conflicts with Lennie and can almost grasp Lennie’s dreams for a better life. Some say that Of Mice and Men is too melancholy to be truly enjoyed. Of Mice and Men is a very sad book. The sorrow that the reader feels, although overwhelming, is just an indication of the compassion that Steinbeck makes you feel for the characters.

Of mice and men tells the tale of two workers, George Milton and Lennie Small, in their struggle and very last failure to achieve their dreams in a hard and cruel world. In this story John Steinbeck, the author of this book, provokes tension and suspense, and it pictures the time and setting very well. The author also presents and develops the characters, specially George and Lennie. Steinbeck gave different characteristics to both, George and Lennie, in the sense that each one has something the other needs. Lennie, who is big and stupid and George who is small and smart. As the author gave this characteristics most of the time George is looking after Lennie but sometimes Lennie is looking after George. One of the main themes of this story is Loneliness, which are showed in Candy and his dog, and George and Lennie because they `ve got no one except one another.

Love one another as Christ first loved us.
I really enjoyed the story, “Of Mice and Men” and I enjoyed it more knowing that my grandson had to read it for his english class. It was a sad story about a human life that was mentally disabled. It also showed how one human being took the responsibility to care for this individual that was not related to him, but cared anyway because his only relative died.
