BIG CITY CRIME. SMALL TOWN HEROES

An epic finale.
Detective Samantha Jesse is determined to hold on to what she has. Whenever she gets too happy, life corrects that mistake and takes the joy from her. Her new partner, Detective Romeo Alvarez, was there the day of the biggest correction, but despite his assertions, that doesn’t mean they’re forever connected. Unless her worst fears come true and he changes his ways because he fell in love at first sight with her sister, Bristol. As if Samantha needs that complication in her quiet life.

A love rekindled.
Fire Department Captain Julio Espinoza-Vasquez has never let go of the love of his life. Raised by deaf parents, he sees the world in ways no one else around him ever will. And he’ll put it all on the line to protect his colleagues—the family that the department has given him. When a spate of suspicious fires and one death make it clear something is happening in Benson, Julio lands on an inter-department task force. Working with Samantha is his one shot at getting her back.

As the hunt for the arsonist turns to targeted attacks, Julio puts it all on the line to save Samantha while she investigates these deadly crimes. Only together can they uncover the culprit.
But not before Benson becomes an inferno.

Each Benson First Responders book is a stand-alone Christian Romantic Suspense.

Inferno is a high octane, action-packed, second chance suspense novel. Lisa ended the series with a bang, and Samantha and Julio were the perfect couple to complete the Benson First Responders series. When an Arsonist starts mirroring fires sent twenty years ago, Samantha and Julio are thrown together again. Along the way, we see lots of old friends, some new faces, and an epic mystery. A few of the characters in Inferno have a hearing impairment, and I loved the way Lisa added deaf culture to this book. As someone who used to be okay-ish in sign language, this was an awesome addition.I really enjoyed Inferno, and I can’t wait to see what happens next in Benson. Or at Vanguard.I received an ARC from the author, but this doesn’t impact my thoughts or opinions on this book. I previously bought the earlier books in the series as they released.

Awesome conclusion to this great series
This book is both awesome and not-so-awesome. The not-so-awesomeness is because this is the end of the series. I was excited to read it, but ugh….it is the last book in the series. Phillips has become one of my favorite authors, and this is my favorite of her many series she has written. My favorite book of the series is definitely #8 Duplicity. If you have not read the series, then you haven’t met the twins – Simon and Peter. Yeah, I was amused also. They were in the whole series, and Peter got his own story last summer in an anthology of 4 stories by Phillips and three other authors. Twin #2, Simon, finally got his story in the 8th book in this series. But this book…it was an awesome conclusion to this very awesome series. (Where do authors get such terrific – and so many – ideas for books? The suspense in this one was non stop, as were the fires being set all over the city of Benson. Towards the end of the book, I was wondering if there was going to be anything left. I loved the romance part of the book. In this one, the couple had been together since kids, then broke up two years ago. And they had been majorly together, if you get the drift…I have gotten to the point in my lifelong bachelorhood that I can enjoy romance in a book, and all kinds. I like the kind where boy meets girl and things develop. Preferably while a killer chases one or both. Kind of kidding…but I think I prefer this kind. The kind where the couple was previously dating or married, and they get back together. Preferably while running from a killer. 😀But seriously, this was an awesome read. I loved the characters, and how everything played out.The books can be read as standalones, but I highly recommend reading them in order so you know who everyone is and how they relate to each other.

    So suspenseful!
Inferno by Lisa Phillips is the 9th book in the Benson First Responders series. You can totally read it as a stand-alone book; however, there are characters and plotlines that are from previous books. I’ve not read any of the others, and I still enjoyed this on its own!I love reading books and watching shows centered around first responders because of the level of suspense. And I like seeing the bad guys get what’s coming to them! Inferno centers around Detective Samantha Jesse and Fire Department Captain Julio Espinoza-Vasquez. They have a past but have not been in contact in almost two years. When fires start breaking out all over the city of Benson, they, along with others, are assigned to a joint task force to stop the arsonist.Inferno was a real page-turner! I liked the connection to a past serial arsonist and the current one who has a much larger goal in mind. Following along as Samantha and Julio chased clues was very exciting. The danger and suspense felt so real! I could feel their frustration as the fires began escalating. It was also enjoyable watching the two reconnect in a romantic way. They never stopped loving each other, but past events kept them from trying to salvage their relationship. The past events led them both to abandon their faith though Julio was beginning to draw closer to God. Samantha struggles throughout the novel questioning why God allows bad things to happen. I think that’s something we all struggle with at times. She finally realizes that God answers prayers in unexpected ways, and He’s in control. Another romance blossoms during Inferno too – one between Samantha’s partner Romeo and her deaf sister Bristol. They’re pretty adorable together!I highly recommend Inferno to those of you who love Christian romantic suspense! It’s got a case that will keep you at the edge of your seat, romance, and Christian themes throughout.I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

    great bk
Samantha and Julio great characters, honest, integrity and looking for their forever. The story was excellent. A little too heavy at the cabin scene for me but the ending was awesome. God was glorified.

    Get ready…
Lisa Phillips’ Inferno is filled with non-stop action and twists and turns. It will keep you turning pages while on the edge of your seat, attempting to uncover the identity of the arsonist. Inferno is a thrilling finale to this series… you won’t want to miss it!

    Awesome conclusion
Inferno was a fast-paced, action-packed read. The storyline drew me straight in front of the beginning, I enjoyed Julio and Samantha’s history, their struggles, and Samantha being stretched in her faith and coming to understand that God was real. The plot was engaging and had twists and turns, the story involved second chances, I had a sneaking suspicion of who the arsonist was, and I loved the epilogue.I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
